Who is Brain Flip's Fearless Guide? Debra Thorsen, author of Brain Flip here. I was brainwashed by society to believe that if I was a good girl I would succeed and be happy. So, I followed society's rules. I went to a prestigious university, worked for two US Senators, got my MBA at Carnegie Mellon, got married, and earned a six-figure salary. It looked perfect on the outside and felt empty on the inside.

So, at the age of 28, I was experiencing a mid-life crisis and I wondered, "How did I get here?"
I felt like my body had been invaded by an alien and I didn't know who I was anymore. I had lost my inner spark and was moving numbly through life.

Chapter 1 — Introduction

Have you taken a wrong turn in your life and don't like where you have ended up? Brain Flip will awaken you to the destructive social brainwashing that occurs when we are children and guide you through the process of un-brainwashing yourself and seizing control of your life. It is time to wake up!

Chapter 2 — Taking a Wrong Turn

I went through a mid-life crisis in my late twenties. At the age of 28, I felt like my whole life had been a series of wrong turns. And I looked in the mirror and said, “How on earth did I get here?” By society’s measure, I was successful, affluent, and on the right track. Outside it looked great. Inside it felt desolate.

Chapter 3 — Destructive Social Brainwashing

From the moment we are born, our conditioning begins. We believe that we need to civilize children at a young age so that they fit in to society. Unfortunately, we are being conditioned and civilized by a dysfunctional culture. And the brainwashing required to make us functional members of this crazy culture makes us dysfunctional individuals.

Chapter 4 — Trusting the Natural Intelligence of Children

Children are still viewed and treated like inferior beings in our society. I believe that we can learn a lot from our children. Children before the age of four are happy and joyous beings. We spend 30 to 40 years of our lives being brainwashed by society into a false happiness and success trap and the rest of our lives trying to recapture the joy of our inner children.

Chapter 5 — Seizing Control of Your Life

Western Society is a crazy place based upon fear and control. Chapter 5 shows you that to seize control of your life and recapture joy, you must uncover the lies of our society and flip your thinking. By un-brainwashing yourself, you can live with joy instead of fear.

Chapter 6 — Brain Flip #1: from Observer to Creator

Most of us are taught that reality exists outside of us. We observe the world as it is. We don't necessarily have any responsibility for how the world appears. It just IS the way that it IS. This is a lie. There is no reality that exists outside of you. Chapter 6 will show you how to change your reality right now!

Chapter 7 — Brain Flip #2 — from Blame to Responsibility

Many of us get energy from playing the blame game. We fool ourselves into thinking that others are to blame for our circumstances. The blame game is the wrong game. It has never made anyone rich, happy, or content. Blame just keeps people stuck, miserable, and complaining. The powerful exercises in Chapter 7 will help you to feel the joy and freedom of taking 100% responsibility for your thoughts and actions.

Chapter 8 — Brain Flip #3 — from Victim to Victor

We end up taking lots of wrong turns when we are addicted to being a victim. Most of us do not consciously identify ourselves as a victim, yet our inaction or passive stance in life may point to an underlying story of victimization that we are living. Chapter 8 has powerful exercises to move your from a passive victim mode into a powerful action-oriented victor mode.

Chapter 9 — Brain Flip #4 — from Outer to Inner Success

Are you a prisoner of your own success? You have achieved success, are "respected" by your peers, have a nice big house full of great stuff, take nice vacations. And yet, you often think, "Is this all that there is?" Many of us experience this "mid-life crisis" because we have borrowed society’s definition of success instead of crafting our own definition of personal success. Chapter 9 will guide you through the process of creating your own definition of success that inspires you to take bold action in exciting directions.

Chapter 10 — Brain Flip #5 — from Wasting Time to Savoring Time

Do you think that you have all the time in the world to realize your dreams? We often waste our time and fill it with activities and events that have no meaning for us. When we wake up and realize that we haven’t been moving towards our dreams, we often think it is too late and we give up. Chapter 10 will give you a new perspective on your short life and leave you fired up to pursue your dreams and savor every minute of your life.

Chapter 11 — Brain Flip #6 — from Should to Want

Are you stuck in the corporate world because you think that this is where you SHOULD be. The story goes something like this, "A responsible adult has a REAL job. A responsible adult does work that he or she needs to do. It is not about having fun. It is about paying the bills."
