Fearless Guides eZineIdeas, Inspiration, and Practices for living joyously in a fear-based world. The End of New Year's Resolutions Are you still making New Year's Resolutions? Well stop. Stop it right now. Resolutions are almost always focused on stopping a negative habit. And when you focus on the negative - you inadvertantly reinforce it. So, you could be saying, "I am going to stop smoking." or "I am going to start exercising regularly." In making these resolutions, you focus either on the smoking or the lack of exercise in your life. With every desire in life there are two extremes. The fulfillment of the desire and the lack of it. It is like a big stick with two ends. Your work is to figure out which end of the stick you are on and in which direction your thoughts are leading you. For example, with health - there is optimal health on one end and illness on the other end. Where are you today? When you make a New Year's resolution around health - does it make you happy and joyful or fearful and anxious? Usually, it is a mix of both. The initial hope is often followed by disappointment and frustration. What is the alternative? Well, no matter what you desire in 2006, whether it is better health, more money, fulfilling relationships, you need to focus on a mental image of where you want to be. Avoid the tendency to focus on where you are today. Don't keep score. Often, we will be moving toward a goal and will stop to take score and then we realize that we are not there yet, we get discouraged, and we give up. Focus almost obsessively on where you want to be, picture yourself as already having achieved your goal, say positive affirmations daily to confirm your success and don't keep score. If you get into a place where you are feeling discouraged, angry, or sad, remind yourself that you will soon be where you want to be. If you are unsure of this, then remember that we are energetic beings and source energy responds to our desires almost immediately. It is our work to bring our thougths and feelings to the place that our non-physical energetic beings have instantaneously travelled. January's Cure for Fear Stay Positive. As we go through life, we often pick up negative habits of thought. After a while, they seem so natural to us that we don't stop to question our thinking. If you are trying to make a change in your life or increase your health or prosperity, then do some visualization and affirmation work to pave the road ahead of you. This is your real work - to control your emotional responses to situations so that you are sending out a positive vibration that matches your desires. Start your day by doing something that makes you happy - a walk, listening to music, dancing, playing with a child or pet. When you are in a happy place, set your intentions for the day. If abundance or good health is what you desire, then state that out loud and with positive emotion. Get as detailed as you can to increase your sense of joy in having created this positive state in your life. Clearly state your intention to experience joy in this day and to attract only those people, events, and experiences that bring you joy. As you go through your day, pay attention to how you feel. If you start feeling sad, angry, or depressed, then try to reach for a better thought or feeling. Remember a time when you felt happy. Picture yourself as you want to be. Say, "I choose to feel good." "I want to only see the best in myself." Stay positive. Avoid the negative.
